Stone Temple Pilots are a rock band that hail from California. They formed in 1986, originally under the name Mighty Joe Young but changed it as their was a blues artist who was using that name. The line up changed a few times from the formation but upon completing a cut for their first demo tape in 1990, the band has had the same members.
* Scott Weiland (vocals)
* Dean DeLeo (Guitar)
* Robert DeLeo (Bass)
* Eric Kretz (Drums)
Their debut album, Core, was released in 1992 and is, to date, still their most sucessful album, spawning hit singles such as Plush and Creep. They went on to release 2 more albums up until 1997 where the band went on hiatus and Weiland released his first solo record.
In 1999 they released their forth album, simply titled No. 4, which had their most sucessful single to date, named 'Sour Girl'. They released their fifth album, Shangri-La Dee Da, toured, and were in the process of booking studio time for their next album when the band broke up, Weilands drug addictions and in-house fighting were the main reasons behind the split.
In their time apart Weiland went on to have success with Velvet Revolver with two album releases, and with another solo album. The DeLeo brothers formed the band 'Army of One' with the singer of Filter with whom they released a self titled album.
A reconciliation between the brothers and Weiland came about around 2007 due to a phonecall from Weiland's wife to the DeLeo's to play at a private function. During 2008 the band did a North American tour and although there were some dates that were cancelled due to Weiland falling off the wagon again, they received some very positive reviews.
They entered the studio in mid-2009 and began recording songs for their self titled sixth album, due out on May 25th 2010.
